Glass Dome

I began construction of the stained glass dome by welding and assembling the steel skeleton framework.  The framework was then put into place on the roof of my first glass studio in Maui, where I began my glass career in 1978.

I created a design of Hawaiian birds perched on the limbs of a large tree, set against a backdrop of blue sky.  Birds represented include the Akialoa, Cardinal, Lavender Fire Finch and Saffron Finch.  Encompassing this spacious scene is a striking geometric border pattern.

As each glass panel was crafted, it was put in to place within the framework.  The dome took about 10 months to complete.
